Introduced in 2004, the original G-RAID from G-Technology was revolutionary in its ability to support professional content creation applications via FireWire. The current (4th) generation of G-RAID features a high-speed interface sporting 3Gb eSATA, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 ports, and is available in storage capacities up to 8TB.

Like previous generations of G-RAID the current 4th generation models are guaranteed to support the simultaneous playback of multiple layers of video in real-time with applications such as Final Cut Pro, Premiere and Media Composer.

The below stream count is applicable when connected via eSATA.

10-bit SD = 2 streams
8-bit SD = 2 streams
ProRes 422 HQ = 2 streams
DVCPRO HD = 4 streams
HDV = 5 streams
DV25 = 8 streams

Note - the stream counts above are calculated using G-RAID filled to 80% capacity and incorporate a full seek from the first file to the last file on the drive. This is the MINIMUM guaranteed performance from a G-RAID. Stream counts will be significantly greater on a clean drive.

G-RAID is pre-formatted for HFS+ with Journaling (supporting Macintosh computers) and is compatible with Apple's Time Machine straight out of the box. A simple initialisation is all it takes to prepare G-RAID for use with Windows systems.
