ATTO Technology News | Press:ATTO Technology Introduces Third-generation iSCSI-to-SCSI Bridge High performance, cost-effective IP SAN connectivity
Amherst, NY - January 11, 2005 - ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, announced today the release of its third-generation iSCSI-to-SCSI bridge, the ATTO iPBridge™ 1550E/D. Supporting Microsoft’s iSCSI software initiator, the IETF V1.0 iSCSI specification, and a host of third-party hardware and software solutions, the iPBridge 1550 offers organizations a very affordable solution for networking existing SCSI storage devices into an Ethernet network. This affords IT managers the ability to deploy cost-effective iSCSI storage networks. The ATTO iPBridge 1550 lets users leverage their current Ethernet expertise by providing the ability to attach existing SCSI storage to an Ethernet IP-based network, enabling storage connectivity and consolidation at an affordable price. This allows departmental data centers and Small-to- Medium-size Enterprises (SMEs) to maximize their Return on Investment (ROI) by utilizing existing storage resources as shared storage. The ATTO iPBridge 1550 offers advanced diagnostics and management capabilities based on the Intel® IOP321 I/O processor. ATTO’s ExpressNAV™, an integrated management console, provides an intuitive interface for component monitoring and management. With one Gigabit Ethernet port and one independent Ultra160 SCSI port and near wire-speed sustained throughput, the ATTO iPBridge 1550 is an ideal bridging component for mid-range native-SCSI storage devices. It offers a winning combination of performance and affordability. ATTO has recognized that organizations of all sizes have expressed increased interest in iSCSI-based solutions. IT professionals are expressing interest in the iSCSI technology particularly because it allows them to network storage while leveraging their current Ethernet expertise. “ATTO’s announcement of third-generation iSCSI technology is testament to customer interest and use of iSCSI-based solutions,” states Sherri Robinson, director of Markets at ATTO Technology. “Customers are telling us that they want low-cost, dependable and easy-to-manage iSCSI solutions. The introduction of our third-generation iSCSI-to-SCSI bridge demonstrates ATTO’s commitment to facilitating cost-effective IP SANs.” Michael Ludgate, director of Marketing for Intel’s Storage Components Division, says iSCSI-based solutions are gaining increased popularity among SMB/SME customers who are looking to create new IT capabilities while leveraging their Ethernet expertise and infrastructure. “The Intel IOP321 processor based on Intel XScale® technology embedded in the ATTO iPBridge 1550 is designed to enable affordable and standards-based iSCSI solutions,” Ludgate states.
