ATTO Technology News | Press:ATTO Fibre Channel-to-SCSI Bridge Line Qualified
Interoperable with Dantz Retrospect 6.0 Backup Software for Mac OS X NAB Booth # SL5864 Amherst, NY – April 19, 2004 - ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, announced today that Dantz Development Corporation – a leader in backup and restore software for small and midsize businesses – has qualified ATTO’s FibreBridge Fibre Channel-to-SCSI Bridge line to be interoperable with their Retrospect 6.0 for Macintosh backup software. This recognition gives Mac users a qualified solution for backing up Fibre Channel-based storage devices to legacy or SCSI-based storage devices. Dantz products are among the most widely used backup applications for the Mac platform and Mac users. Running either a Storage Area Network (SAN) or Direct Attached Fibre storage, these users now can utilize their legacy SCSI storage for backup purposes. For the digital video/audio market, which requires storage of large media files, the combination of Retrospect 6.0 and the speed of an ATTO FibreBridge will result in tremendous time and cost savings. ATTO offers the widest selection of bridges in the industry, ranging from an economical Fibre Channel-to-SCSI Bridge with one Fibre Channel port and one SCSI port, to a more advanced bridge with three Fibre Channel ports and four SCSI ports. These advanced bridges offer premier performance with ultimate throughput for high-demand mission-critical applications. Four easily integrated form factors allow users to match the bridge to meet their application needs. The ATTO FibreBridge product family shares a common code base, including its serverless backup option, which ensures interoperability with all current and future FibreBridge products. Dantz Retrospect protects computers by providing enterprise-class data protection for file servers, desktops, notebooks and business-critical applications. Retrospect 6.0 protects Power Mac G4 and G5 computers running Mac OS X “Panther,” backs up storage arrays hosting multiple terabytes of data, and supports SCSI and Fibre Channel tape libraries. There’s no limit to the size of volumes that can be backed up or the amount of data stored in a backup set. It’s a reliable and easy to use solution for Mac users who need to maintain a high volume of digital media. Retrospect 6.0 can automatically adjust backup operations when protecting networked computers, saving valuable time for backup administrators. “While many of today’s new tape libraries offer a Fibre Channel interface, there are an overwhelming number of SCSI-based tape libraries in use today which will continue to be operational for many years to come,” said Don Chouinard, director of product marketing at Dantz Development Corporation. “The ATTO FibreBridge provides these SCSI-tape library customers with a seamless and cost-effective means of migrating their SCSI tape library to Fibre Channel for deployment in either a storage area network or direct-attached environment. The Fibre Channel support inherent in Retrospect 6.0 makes it an ideal complement to the ATTO FibreBridge.” “Together, Dantz and ATTO offer end users in the digital audio/video industry the opportunity to utilize their existing legacy equipment in a SAN or DAS storage environment, saving them time and money,” states Director of Markets Management at ATTO Technology, Sherri Robinson. “The speed of ATTO FibreBridge products in a backup scenario will give Mac users the shortest possible time to backup and restore critical data. The added benefit is that now our entire Fibre Channel-to-SCSI Bridge line is compatible with one of the most widely used backup applications for the Mac market – the Dantz Retrospect 6.0.” |
