ATTO Technology and Hitachi Showcase 4-Gigabit Interoperability at Storage Networking World
ATTO First to Ship 4-Gigabit Fibre Channel Storage Adapters

AMHERST, NY - October 25, 2004 - ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, announced today, they are the first to ship 4-Gigabit per second (4-Gb/sec.) Fibre Channel storage adapters. The Celerity FC-42XS is a 4-Gigabit dual-channel Fibre Channel Storage Adapter offering up to 800 MB/sec. performance, per channel, in full-duplex mode. With the highest available Fibre Channel throughput, and backward compatibility, Celerity FC-42XS supports the most intensive data applications, including digital content creation, tape streaming and backup, rich content delivery and complex databases. ATTO will demonstrate Celerity FC-42XS interoperability with 4-Gb/sec. Fibre Channel hard disk drive prototypes from Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) at Storage Networking World in Orlando, Florida, October 25 - 28, 2004.

The 4-Gb/sec. Fibre Channel standard is emerging as the dominant SAN technology for next-generation disk and tape storage systems. Four-Gigabit Fibre Channel is highly cost effective and ensures backward compatibility, enabling users to preserve their 2-Gigabit and 1-Gigabit Fibre Channel investments. To ensure interoperability, Hitachi and ATTO have successfully completed joint qualification of Hitachi’s 4-Gb/sec. Fibre Channel hard disk drive prototypes and the, now generally available, Celerity FC-42XS adapter. The successful interoperability testing verifies system level hardware compatibility between these two critical system components and offers a proven system solution to server and storage equipment vendors.

“For 15 years customers have relied on ATTO for fast and reliable storage connectivity solutions,” states Director of Markets at ATTO Technology, Sherri Robinson. “Being the first to market with the 4-Gigabit Celerity FC-42XS Fibre Channel storage adapter affirms ATTO’s commitment to constantly helping customers bring their computing environments to new heights of performance. The qualification of Celerity FC-42XS with Hitachi Ultrastar disk drive prototypes will allow 4-Gb/sec. Fibre Channel to be integrated with confidence by OEMS, system integrators, resellers and end users.”

“The Hitachi-ATTO interoperability demonstration is one of many development milestones that will help pave the way for a smooth industry transition to 4-Gb/sec. Fibre Channel,” said Dr. Manjeshwar Bhat, general manager, Server Business Unit, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. “We believe that improving storage network bandwidth with 4-Gb/sec. Fibre Channel will help our enterprise customers improve the performance of their systems that are being taxed with large and increasingly complex applications.”
