ATTO Technology News | Press:ATTO Diamond Storage Array VT Certified Compatible
With CA’s BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Software Amherst, NY- July 13, 2004 - ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, announced today that the ATTO Diamond Storage Array VT-Class (Virtual Tape) has been certified compatible with the BrightStor ARCserve Backup family of Data Availability solutions from Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA). The ATTO Diamond Storage Array VT is a high-performance virtual-tape device which can be seamlessly integrated into an existing CA backup environment and is seen by BrightStor ARCserve applications as a traditional tape drive or library. The Diamond VT uses cost-effective high performance disk technology to relieve pressure on backup windows, improve reliability of backups, maintain existing processes and procedures, reduce administrative overhead and enable faster recovery. As the underlying technology, the Diamond VT achieves faster overall performance by employing disk drives which are generally 2 to 15 times faster than tape drives, thus significantly improving backup and restore times. Its seamless integration into existing environments allows users already running BrightStor ARCserve® Backup to reap all the benefits of Diamond VT such as faster backups and restores, all without unnecessary changes to existing processes and procedures. CA's BrightStor ARCserve Backup automates traditional backup and recovery tasks, significantly reducing the storage workloads on IT operations staff. Its domain-based architecture and centralized management allow administrators to manage diverse enterprise-wide resources and maintain the security of business environments from a single location. CA's popular BrightStor ARCserve Backup is among the industry's leading backup solutions for today's heterogeneous departmental server environments. “The Diamond Storage Array VT-Class doesn’t replace existing tape backup, it augments it,” states Sherri Robinson, director of markets management. “It seamlessly integrates into an existing storage environment and helps IT departments eliminate the problem of expanding data and shrinking backup windows. The combination of BrightStor ARCserve and Diamond VT presents Computer Associates’ users with a proven solution for achieving faster backups and restores while maintaining their existing backup procedure.” Diamond VT has been designed to ensure that it meets and exceeds the most demanding backup applications and provides the highest level of data availability as dictated by Enterprise IT environments. Diamond VT provides an alternative way to implement data protection solutions by using disk for backup/restore prior to moving information off to tape. Data is backed up faster, more reliably, and is recovered faster. Backed up data is then moved off to tape for long term archive. It also reduces the administrative time required to manage tape systems. The ability to emulate existing tape devices/libraries allows an organization to maintain current processes and procedures as well as its existing software environment making it overall less expensive to integrate than a generic disk-to-disk solution. “Corporate customers need to improve the scalability and economy
of their data protection processes without disrupting their IT operations,”
said Anders Lofgren, CA’s vice president of product management
for BrightStor. “This certification lets BrightStor ARCserve Backup
users know they can enjoy the technical advantages of ATTO’s Diamond
Virtual Tape Storage Array without such disruptions – ensuring
that they can reap its benefits quickly and cost-effectively.” |
